Aurangzeb's hobby of renaming places






Alamgir Aurangzeb 

The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb ( 1618 - 1707 ) had quite a thing for renaming places it seems . In his long drawn stay in the Deccan ( Southern India ) , he renamed quite a few places :

1) Vasantgad -- Killid e Fateh
2) Parali ( Sant Ramdas shrine ) -- Nauroz Tara 
3) Torna -- Futulghraib 
4) Sinhagad -- Bakshindabaksh
5) Pune * -- Muhiyabad 
6) Satara fort -- Azim Tara
7) Vishalgad -- Sakherlana
8)Brahmapuri -- Islampuri
9) Wakinkhera -- Rehman Baksh
10) Peth ( Kothaligad ) -- Miftah - ul - Fatah 
11) Rajgad -- Nabishabad
12) Raigad -- Islamgad 
13) Chakan fort -- Islamabad .
